Stacie Huckeba was Todd Snider’s friend before she became his semi-official photographer. They first met in Memphis, when Snider lived upstairs from the guitar player in the Memphis band Son of Slam, whom Huckeba called “my homies.”
But it was when she landed in East Nashville that they really became close. Snider became comfortable with Huckeba being around with a camera, and that has given her the opportunity to capture some priceless moments in his life. Such as the delightful photo featured above.
Huckeba took the photo on the afternoon of September 17, 2007. Snider was sitting with Huckeba and his then wife Melita Osheowitz that afternoon on the front porch of his home in the Little Hollywood neighborhood of East Nashville, having a drink and a smoke, when he got a phone call.
Not wanting to interrupt the party on the porch, Snider got up and walked out toward the front gate as he talked. When Huckeba noticed that baby Cowboy Jim was following Snider, she grabbed her camera and took the photograph. Of course, Cowboy Jim would go on to achieve his own kind of fame as Snider’s sidekick, protector and co-writer. He often appeared onstage with Snider and also was featured on the cover of The Excitement Plan riding with Snider in his antique convertible.

From time to time when it is feasible, The Snider Files will offer subscribers the chance to own framed prints of the photographs we publish. Unfortunately, that is not possible with this photo. But our conversations about the photograph inspired Huckeba to offer the photo on a coffee mug through her Etsy store, which you can see here.
